Mrs. Durbin’s Musings

I cannot imagine the devastation suffered by the families in the Houston area due to Hurricane Harvey and now the south Florida area due to Hurricane Irma.  In addition, I cannot comprehend the challenge of overseeing a school which has been so severely affected by these storms.  Trinity Classical School in Houston, Texas, is a partner school with The Highlands Latin School in Louisville, Kentucky, just like we are. Since several of you mentioned that you would like to offer an opportunity for ACA students to reach out to a school affected by one of the recent hurricanes, I attempted to contact one of those schools which shares our values and vision.  I heard back from Ms. Catha Jaynes.  Please read her message below:

Dear Mrs. Durbin,

We appreciate your thoughtfulness in reaching out to us. Your voicemail was very kind. We have approximately 20 families that have lost their homes or will have extensive repairs due to flooding. We appreciate any continued prayer support for those families, especially for the children who are probably the most affected by this circumstance.

Regarding specific needs, we have set up an account for financial donations for these families. Monetary gifts can be made here – Online Gift Form. Simply put “Harvey Assistance” in the memo line and that money will be used directly for affected families. Other ideas of gifts are generic Visa gift cards (for furniture and home item replacements), grocery store gift cards (HEB or Kroger are the most common stores in Houston), or home improvement store gift cards (such as Lowe’s or Home Depot). Gift cards can be mailed to: Trinity Classical School, 7941 Katy Freeway #110Houston, TX 77024-1924.

Again, we are so grateful for your offer of support. Thank you for reaching out to us.

Trinity Classical School

If you or your student would like to make a monetary gift or gift card contribution to assist Trinity Classical School families, please bring it to Mrs. Durbin by Thursday, September 21, at the close of school.  I will compile a package for the families including messages and notes from our students.  (Please note in the text above that you may opt to give online through the site listed above.)
