Mrs. Durbin’s Musings

Thank you all for your swift response to our “Lice Letter” of yesterday.  I have only been made aware of one additional confirmed case (accompanied by immediate treatment) of these bothersome critters.  Please remain vigilant to check your children daily for the next week or so and then weekly from here on.

On another note, we are completing our fifth week of school today.  Mid-semester progress reports will be going out in a couple of weeks to give you a measure of your student’s progress thus far. Remind your student to be diligent in completing assignments and preparing well for assessments.  We want them to be rewarded well for their good efforts!

Niffer’s at the Tracks Spirit Day

Honestly, who really wants to cook dinner on Mondays? Niffer’s at the Tracks (Opelika) has generously offered to host an ALL DAY spirit day for ACA. Head on over there for lunch or after school on September 25th and grab one of the best burgers in town! Just remember to write ACA on your receipt so that we earn 10%.

Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program

We want students to learn to read for pleasure (beyond their school assigned reading).  In order to encourage this, we are not only participating in the AUBURN READS program, but we are also participating in the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! program.  Both of these programs give incentives/rewards to students for meeting specific goals.  For each of the upcoming months from October through March, teachers have set reading goals for their classes. October calendars for record-keeping will be sent home with students on September 28, 2017. When your student achieves their monthly goal, have him/her submit their completed calendar to Mrs. Bryant for a reading reward certificate redeemable for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. Please note that while class reading goals apply to both  AUBURN READS  and BOOK IT! reading incentive programs, students will only be eligible for AUBURN READS recognition by reaching their reading goal every month October- April. Completed reading goal calendars will be accepted no later than the end of the first week of the new month.  Calendars for November through April will be given out by request.

Last week, Spirit Night invitations were sent home with Kindergarten through fifth grade students in their weekly folders. Be sure to bring the voucher on the bottom of your invitation. Visit Auburn READS to register for Spirit Night.

The READS Spirit Night is on September 14, 2017 at Auburn Mall Center Court.

  • Encourages students that reading is fun and supports your school’s library.

  • Features fun interactive themed displays and games for students to use their reading skills to win prizes.

  • Students are invited to drop by anytime from 5-7 PM. Plan to spend approximately 45 minutes to complete all event activities.
