Solar Eclipse

While the upcoming solar eclipse is an exciting event, it has the potential to cause permanent eye damage.  Mrs. Walker will be presenting information regarding the eclipse after lunch (from 12:30-12:45 p.m.) in the lunchroom. All students will be able to see the effects of the eclipse from a distance through the school windows, but only students who have direct permission from a parent will be allowed to go outdoors (with NASA approved glasses) during its occurrence.  For those who go outdoors, Mrs. Walker and other teachers will be supervising those students.  Students who remain indoors with Mrs. Durbin will be graphing light levels as seen through the window of the lunchroom, and they will be completing eclipse-related activities.

Therefore…you must email the ACA office and state that your child (children) by name (or names) has permission to go outdoors during the solar eclipse.

Also, if you plan to check your child out of school to view the eclipse, please email us, too, so that we have appropriate materials (but not too many) for children who will experience the eclipse with us.
 Please know that we are working to be certain we honor your wishes.  Unless we receive email confirmation of your plans by Monday morning at 8:00 a.m.,  your student (s) will remain indoors during the August 21 solar eclipse.

All parents are welcome to come to ACA at lunchtime to hear Mrs. Walker’s presentation and experience the eclipse here with your students, but we may not have enough viewing glasses for you, so please take care to protect your eyes appropriately should you choose to do so.

Additionally, several parents have indicated that they will be traveling to view the eclipse in another place.  Because of the uniqueness of this event, those absences will be “excused”.


Come be a part of an ACA Playground Work Day from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, August 19. We need folks of every skill level to complete these tasks; no skill (or lack of skill) is too limiting. We will find a task for every hand — men, women, boys, and girls. The best part of these work days is getting to know other families in our school! Contact Mrs. Durbin ( to let her know you plan to be a part of the day!

1-Install a gate to limit access to the water drainage area
2-Cover and secure the evaporation pond with a water permeable panel
3-Install an outdoor chalkboard on the playground

Physical Education

Thank you to the ACA parents and grandparents that have given their time and particularly their love to our students at P.E. these first two weeks of school. Students are enjoying you being a part of their school day. What wonderful memories you are creating with your own children/grandchildren!

GOLF: Ricky Smallridge, Auburn University Club, is once again offering golf instruction for first through 5th grade ACA students. There is a minimum sign up requirement of 10 students for this class to meet. Golf will be on Friday mornings beginning September 8th through November 3 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.  Instruction will not be held October 20th. Purchasing a set of clubs is not necessary; AUC has the equipment needed. Cost:$100. Registration forms were emailed Tuesday, August 15th. Complete forms and turn into the ACA office. Registration deadline is Thursday, August 31st.

Tennis: Travis and Alicia DeBardelaben, Marriott Grand National tennis courts, are offering tennis instruction for ACA students. Instruction is split into two age groups, under 8 years old and 8  through 10 years old. Tennis will be offered on Friday mornings, beginning September 1st through November 17th , from 11:00 am until noon. Cost: $105.00. Please contact Paula Deist to register. Her email address is listed in your Family Directory. Deadline for registration is Thursday, August 24th. 

Sewing: Mrs. Lombardo is offering sewing instruction for second through seventh grade students. Sewing is offered on campus Thursday afternoons from 2:30 until 4:15, beginning September 7th through October 5th ( Block A) and again October 12th through November 16th (Block B). Cost per Block: $175. Registration forms were emailed Tuesday, August 15th. Complete forms and turn into the ACA office. Deadline for registration is Friday, September 1st.
