Mrs. Durbin’s Musings
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4) What an incredible first week of the school year. I am truly rejoicing in the smooth transition students have made from the casualness of summer to the orderliness of school. You parents prepared your children well to don their uniforms, gather supplies, and arrive in a timely manner. Teachers have worked diligently to assure that procedures are taught and abided by from their first moments with students. Congratulations to all of you who have contributed so well to help Auburn Classical Academy begin the year joyfully!
One of our ACA dads, Robert Griffith, has spearheaded our playground renovation and hard court creation. He led the teachers in a planning project to determine most effective structures, plotted the necessary alterations in soil levels, created lists of supplies, led volunteers in work days, and completed the final construction on the afternoon of our Orientation last week. Also, Mr. Cunningham spent many hours gathering materials and laboring with Mr. Griffith and many of you to have a safe, attractive play area for our students. To Mr. Griffith, Mr. Cunningham, and those of you who have contributed to this project, thank you! While children have enjoyed using the playground and court this first week of school, we do have several additional elements to the playground project that require our attention, and we need your help to complete them.
1-Install a gate to limit access to the water drainage area
2-Cover and secure the evaporation pond with a water permeable panel
3-Install an outdoor chalkboard on the playground
4-Apply stain to the play set.
How can you help? Come be a part of an ACA Playground Work Day from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, August 19. We need folks of every skill level to complete these tasks; no skill (or lack of skill) is too limiting. We will find a task for every hand — men, women, boys, and girls. The best part of these work days is getting to know other families in our school! (More information will follow in next week’s Column.) Put this event on your calendar, and contact Mrs. Durbin (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let her know you plan to be a part of the day!
